Well, it's been some time I've been here the last time :)! When the flu catches me every 15 years or so, it REALLY does. Not more about that subject.

Most of you know (perhaps) by now my love for natural fibers and materials. They just intrigue me for some reason.  The THING for me this season? The fallen banana tree leaves. You see them there on the ground, big and chunky and then you bump into these bread baskets and laundry baskets on the side of the road, and you get a big smile on your face - HE saw them too and had an idea! Wow!!

Don't you just love these new products made by Robert? One of our best sellers this past season, and we keep on going, now with a few new alternatives, as well.

I simple adore the square and the oval bread baskets for your morning rolls. And for the kitchen spoons and this and that (made of wild olive tree, of course!) the perfect one is the small high basket.

We are also looking forward to receiving a wonderful, wonderful Rose selection for the spring/summer 2014. Made on combined sisal and banana tree, it is stunning, and it lasts and…what can I say. I'll be sure to make THAT post when we get the items from our stock in Nairobi to here.

Hui, onpas aikaa taas kulunut! Kun flunssa iskee 15 vuoden välein tai jotain semmoista, se näköjään todella ISKEE. Yöks. Ei enempää tästä masentavasta puheenaiheesta.

KOHTA ON KEVÄT!!!! Vaikka just tuli talvi, mikä sekin on ihqua, pääsee möksälle tekemään ei-mitään.

Mutta mutta - näitte tuossa yllä vähän kuvia uusista banaanipuutuotteistamme. Mitäs tykkäätte? Olen tällainen materiaalifriikki, ja nyt tämä banaani todella puhuttelee. Näin mm. USAssa Crate&Barrelilla banaanipuusta tehtyjä tuotteita tuossa jokin aika sitten, ja oli nekin kyllä tosi tosi kauniita.

Niihin pudonneihin, isoihin lehtiin kun törmää tuolla (ei täällä ;)), ja sitten kun näkee tienvarrella upeita leipäkoreja ja pyykkikoreja ym.ym., tulee kyllä iso hymy kasvoille - HÄN näki kanssa nuo banaaninlehdet vähän eri tavalla! Vautsi! Eikö olekin aika ihania nämä Robertin tuotteet? Nämä on niin jykeviä ja ihania, ettei ole toisia samanlaisia oikeasti. Me rakennetaan näistä niin upea koti kesäjulkaisuun, että olen nyt jo ihan pomppeissani koko projektista!

Kikoilta on myös tulossa kokonaan uusi Rose-sarja, jossa yhdistellään lunnonväreillä värjättyä sisalia ja banaaninlehtiä - todellista luksusta, sekä laadultaan että ulkonäöltään.  Siitä sitten enemmän, kun saamme tuotteet tänne pohjolaan tuolta Nairobin varastolta :).

Tänään ja viikonloppuna olemme mukana Kädentaito -messuilla Helsingin messukeskuksessa, ja kuten yleensä, kuvittelin, että olisin tämän ehtinyt kirjoitella aamuyöllä ennen tänne lähtöä. Thought to start with this white table setting - it looked so so pretty on the table, just a minor problem - with the fireplace behind my back I couldn't get far enough from the table to take larger photos (and I've promised to use only my feet as a zoom for now). But hopefully you get the picture!

The beautiful BEAUTIFUL Petra Lunds Lera ceramic hearts should be available in the shop tomorrow. I'll be using them to wrap the presents ordered from the shop going forward, so so SO pretty.

Yes, again it took longer than expected. My camera's settings were completely off, and had to do some of the photos 3 times before at least a little satisfied. 

Taking photos is SO HARD. I never really understood the lack of natural light in November in Finland before now. It was sunny on Saturday, and still it was so dark inside the house I had to use ISO 100 to get anything decent as a result.

Tervetuloa joulupuurolle valkoisen joulukattauksen pariin! Ajattelin, että valkoinen joulukattaus on hyvä paikka aloittaa - se näyttii niin nätiltä tuossa pöydällä, vain pikku ongelma - kun takka on siinä missä se on, en päässyt peruuttamaan jotta olisin saanut laajempia kuvia. Olen nääs luvannut, että käytän ainostaan jalkazoomia tässä vaiheessa. Mutta toivottavasti pääsette fiilikseen!

Himla pellavaservetit, Oninterior tähti servettirenkaat, Petra Lunds Lera Inga lautaset valkoisen Cottonhutin pellavaliinan päällä  - melkeinpä riitti näin. Näitä ajattelin käyttää joululahjojen paketoimiseen täällä kaupalla tästä eteenpäin, NIIN nättejä.

Ja kyllä, taas tässä 3 eri kattauksen kuvausprojektissa meni todella paljon enemmän aikaa kuin arvioin. Jouduin tekemään ekat kuvaukset 3 kertaa, kun en ollut tyytyväinen. Kameran asetukset oli ihan pielessä. Ekaa kertaa todella ymmärsin, että marraskuussa Suomessa EI OLE VALOA, vaikka olikin aurinkoinen päivä ulkona. Sisätiloissa oli silti niin pimeää, että jouduin kuvat ottamaan ISO 100 asetuksella, ettei niistä tullut rakeisia.

Kyllä mä vielä opin. Determined.

This weekend I am fully focusing on planning Weranna's Christmas table settings - here some inspiration with Himla linen napkins, a xmas tree branch and a cinnamon stick. Perhaps 3-4 different kinds. I love to plan table settings, just feels a little silly sometimes as I am not much of a cook. But at least it looks pretty, if not much else ;).

Tänä viikonloppuna projekti on Werannasin jouluinen pöytäkattaus - tässä vähän inspiraatiota Himlan servettejen, kuusenoksan ja kanelitangon muodossa.  Jos tekisi 3-4 erilaista. Rakastan suunnitella kattauksia, vaikka se välillä tuntuukin hassulta, kun en nyt ole kummoinen kokki. Tiettekö, sellainen 'moni kakku päältä kaunis' fiilis. Mutta ainakin sitten näyttää nätiltä, jos ei muuta ;). Kattaus on puoli ruokaa. Joo, mä olen aika vanha, kun viljelen sananlaskuja.

Postailen tänne tuloksia seuraavien päivien aikana - ainakin mustavalkoinen joulukattaus Kikoin hengessä. Ja valkoinen joulukattaus Petra Lunds Leran tyyliin. Ja vikaksi joulukattaus, jossa pellavaa ja punaista. Voi, nyt ei jaksais odottaa aamuun <3!

I am a bit worried about the situation in Nepal - there should be an order on the way as I already sold out some of the Xmas items in the shop, but I haven't heard anything from there. Hopefully they are all okay <3.

These felt potholders I do have - not many, so if you want to have yours for a present, or to your own table, be fast :)! I've been using my charcoal one's now for 1,5 years (we can call that a proper test, can't we?) and they are intact. I love them. Love Love Love.

Tämä viikko on ollut pelkkää hallinnointia, ja silti kaupassa on vähän kaaos ja sieltä puuttuu varastolle saapuneita tuotteita. Yritetään painaa pitkää päivää….joskus tuntuu, että ei noilla paperihommilla ole kauheesti merkitystä, mutta kyllä ne on pakko hoitaa. Tänäänkin menee varmaan TUNTEJA, että saan kirjanpitomatskut lähtemään taas kirjanpitäjälle. Plääh.

Tilanne Nepalissa vähän huolestuttaa - en ole kuullut sieltä mitään, ja yksi tilaus pitäisi lähteä sieltä tänään suomeenpäin. Toivotaan, että siellä on kaikki hyvin <3!

Näitä huopaisia pannunalusia kyllä on joitakin - ei monia, joten jos haluat lahjaksi, tai ihan vaan omaan pöytään, olethan nopea :)! Omiani olen käyttänyt nyt 1,5 vuotta (sitä voi jo sanoa tuotetestaukseksi, eikö?) ja ne ovat moitteettomassa kunnossa. Ihanat ihanat ihanat.

After receiving only a 2 hr Skype training from Antti Karppinen, 2013 International Portrait Award winning photographer, last Thursday, I think I've accomplished best shots I've ever taken. And I want to thank Antti. Seriously, humbly thank him. Take it from me - he really knows his thing! We were planning to organize a workshop in one of the major cities in Europe during the fall, but that just didn't work out. And everyone being so busy, this was now the best alternative we had at hand before my trip to Kenya on Wednesday (Yes, I am going to see where the Kenana owls are actually being made :)))) !!)

Antti knows I am a visual person, and being that, sometimes forms, textures and colors just jump at you. The exceptions from the rule, they somehow glow. Afterwards you look at the photo taken with your phone or  Ixus, and feel disappointed. With me - almost never I capture the object the way I see it.  I know the camera doesn't take the photos, but perhaps it will help at least a little to have a better one to carry around.

And- you know the feeling when you have a new camera in your hand? Okay, here is the on/off and here I shoot...Antti agreed he will show me 5 things to do with the camera. I can say I have a clue of perhaps 1 so far, after 600 kind of serious shots taken during the past 3 days, but it is a start. I am not allowed to use zoom, which was bit of a challenge when there was 4 walls, a huge pile of wood and all kinds of equipment around, but I thought at least this time the best shots are of the intended objects :).

And oh - about the apple rings! These are just plain. I took out the core, and cut the apples into 1-2 mm thick slices, and had them in 75 C oven for 8 hours. The scent in the house is delicious, but at least my apples sweat, so wipe the oven from inside every hour or so. If the moist is dripping on top of the apples again, the drying is kinda pointless ;).

Have you seen this board on Pinterest http://pinterest.com/woonmagazine/frames-shelves/ ? Perfect! This has been the plan for all our small frames (it is quite an impressive pile), once most of them have been painted black. Today? Hopefully. Latest tomorrow ;).

Yes, I'm the first one to admit, I have the habit of promising all kinds of things here in the blog, but you know what? If I didn't promise it here, I wouldn't even get 50% of the stuff I plan done in the house :). After it became a job, well - all the decor and planning energy goes to Weranna's rather than our home. Which is a relief to some, I might say ;). 

Well, this is also the reason you haven't been seeing too many (any) images of our new home - there is nothing to show ;). Except brown cardboard boxes behind a couch. Yes, 1 of them. A small one. The other one is still in the store. I know. Pathetic.

And - there will be a meeting held in the house next week. I don't want them looking around thinking - she works in the home decor business? Seriously??  My defense will be - my home is always a work in progress.

Tai oikeastaan - matkalla hyllyille?

Oletko nähnyt tämän Pinterest boardin taulut hyllyille - http://pinterest.com/woonmagazine/frames-shelves/ ? Täydellinen! Tämä on ollut suunnitelma kaikille noille pienille tauluille (se on aika huojuva pino), kunhan saan aikaiseksi maalattua ne mustaksi. Tänään? Toivottavasti. Viimeistään huomenna ;).

Kyllä, olen ensimmäinen myöntämään, että tapana on lupailla kaikenmoista täällä blogissa, mutta tiedätkö, muuten en saisi varmaan puoliakaan aikaiseksi täällä kotona :). Sen jälkeen kun sisustuksesta tuli työ, no - laitan kaiken intohimon sisustukseen ja suunnitteluun tuonne Weranna'sin puolelle. Mikä on tietysti aikamoinen helpotus eräille ;).

Siksi ette myöskään ole nähneet montakaan (yhtäkään) kuvaa meidän uudesta kodista Suomessa - eipä ole kauheasti näytettävää...paitsi ehkä pahvilaatikot sohvan takana. YHDEN sohvan takana. Pienen sellaisen. Se toinen on vielä kaupassa. Joo, tiedän. vähän masentavaa.

Ja vielä - meillä on täällä palaveri ensi viikolla. Ja jotenkin ei anna ylpeys periksi, että ihmiset katselevat täällä ympärilleen ja miettivät - siis tämä daami tekee töitä sisustuksen kanssa? Oikeesti?? Toki puolustus löytyy - mulle koti on aina prosessissa. Välillä isossa, välillä pienessä. Tällä kertaa aikas isossa...

Tässä vielä muutamia kuvia meidän rapujuhlavalmisteluista  - tänään valmistellaan isoja juhlia, joten nyt ei runoilla :) (kyllä joo, näiden kuvien valot on kaikki ihan missä sattuu, sama paikka ja aika taas, enkä ymmärrä, miten saan valkoisen pöydän sekä punaiseksi että harmaaksi samalla kertaa, mutta kai sekin on tietynlainen 'taito' ;).

 Our summer house is one of those places where my mind really starts to work - not necessarily on things it should be working on, NOOO, but on all kinds of stuff.

You walk beside the shore (it's a lake, so don't get me wrong, this 'stroll' is taken among rocks and wet places with rubber boots on ;)) and see a driftwood and see a candle holder - like immediately.

You sit in the outdoor-loo (is that what you call it? At least found in Google ;)) a few times a day, and look at the scenery, and think oh, that would be good and that could turn into this...

Unfortunately, for various a bit sad reasons, our summer holiday was this year so short, that I didn't have a chance to really dig into my projects. Only a few of them became reality, you'll see in the coming posts...

But a small Crayfish Party we managed, and here you see some images of the table preparation - and Riikka playing with the Crayfish ;). The hand-made ceramic sea star you find HERE.

Mökillä aivot lepää ja alkaa pulppuamaan ideoita - ei tietenkään yleensä asioista, joista niiden pitäisi ideoida, EIIIII, mutta kaikenmoisesta. Laajalti turhasta, tietty.

Sitä rämpii kumpparit jalassa pitkin järvenrantaa, syö mustikoita, väistelee kyitä ja näkee tukkilautasta rantaan ajautuneen tukin - ahaa, tuosta tulee pöytään oiva kynttilänjalka!

Istuu ulkohuussissa (niinkuin nyt tehdään joitakin kertoja päivässä), ihailee maisemia (unohtui kamera pois fölisestä joka kerta, ensi kesänä sitten) ja katselee ympärilleen...tuosta tulisi hyvä tollanen, ja tuosta sellanen...

Valitettavasti, muutamista vähän surullisistakin syistä, meidän kesäloma mökkyrällä oli tänä vuonna vähän repaleinen ja lyhyt, niin en ehtinyt toteuttamaan läheskään kaikkia ideoita, joita vähän kyllä lupailinkin, mutta joitakin kuitenkin. Näitä projekteja on nähtävillä sitten seuraavissa kuvastoissa ja messuständillä ym.

Mutta pienet rapujuhlat kumminkin järjestettiin, ja tässä muutama kuva kattauksesta - ja tietty Riikka vähän leikki ravuilla kans ;). Suomessa käsin valmistettu keramiikkatähti löytyypi TÄÄLTÄ.

Good storage and order is just a necessity!

It just makes it easier to live really - you don't get irritated and the days flow smoothly. This is my experience with this phenomena.

Both Matts and I like order - which makes our lives smoother - I mean that we are alike so we don't need to argue about this.

When we built Villa Stoor vi thought a lot about storage - it would have high priority. Just look at our kitchen, and you see that storage is really the s**t. Our dressing room is even a result of storage thinking, even in the wash room there's storage space.

Just in the wash room there's a variety of needs for stocking things, all from the laundry and detergent and cleaning stuff, to medicine and such. All of this I have stored in handy zinc boxes I found at Weranna's Warehouse  - smart with the chalk board in front so you can write the contents.

So a little hint - fix good storage space - all according to your needs, of course - you will feel better!

Hyvät säilytystilat on arjen ihanuutta!

Ne nyt vaan tekee elämästä helpompaa - ei ärsyynny ja päivät sujuvat helpommin. Tämä on ainakin minun kokemukseni asiasta.

Sekä Matts että minä pidämme järjestyksestä - joka tekee elämästämme mukavampaa - ja tästä asiasta meidän tarvitse kiistellä.

Kun rakensimme Villa Stooria ajattelimme paljon säilyttämistä - se oli korkealla prioriteettilistalla. Katsokaa vaikka keittiötämme, näette, että säilytystilaa on todella mietitty. Vaatehuoneemme on myös mietitty säilytystä silmälläpitäen, samoin kodinhoitohuone.

Juuri kodinhoitohuoneessa on kaikenmoista säilytystarvetta - tietysti itse pyykki ja pesuaineet, mutta sen lisäksi siivoustarvikkeet -ja aineet, sekä esim. perheen lääkeet. Juuri lääkkeet olen järjestänyt sinkkilaatikoihin, jotka löysin Weranna's Warehousesta - fiksuine liitutauluineen niihin saa kirjoitettua, mitä laatikot pitävät sisällään.

Joten pieni vinkki - miettikää säilytystilat tarkkaan, omien tarpeidenne mukaisesti tietysti - voitte paremmin!

My beautiful friend, a stylist and photographer Paulina Arcklin, took again some wonderful photos - this time to Weranna's blog! Thank you! This breakfast looks so fresh and delicious that it  really is hard to wait until the blueberries start to be ready to be picked at the summer house.

It is no secret, or actually I might be world known for the fact, that I love white (and also black). In my mind, and also in my hands, everything turns white. And when I start to paint, I go around the house with the brush in my hand trying to find more objects 'to be painted white'. 

Painting is VEEEEERY therapeutic for me ;), even right now I am painting some Bamboo blinds - white, of course.

These Kikoi potholders I just had to paint first! They are fantastic! I remember seeing the products the first time at Weranna's catalogue shoot...I saw them white immediately, and the end result is exactly as I had hoped for: despite the white matt surface you clearly see the original material and it's feel.

Outside Finland I don't miss Midsummer much, as it is not celebrated here, but I do miss blueberries, even though they might belong more to the fall ;)

Ihana Paulina Arcklin otti taas upeita kuvia - ja tällä kertaa Weranna'sin blogiin! Kiitos! Tämä aamiainen näyttää niin herkulliselta, että ei todella jaksa odottaa, että ensimmäiset mustikat kypsyy mökin pihalla.

Ei ole suuri salaisuus ja itse asiassa taidan olla ihan maailmallakin siitä tunnettu, että rakastan valkoista (mutta myös mustaa). Mielessäni, mutta myös käsissäni lähes kaikki muuttuu valkoiseksi. Ja kun aloitan maalaamaan, kävelen tela tai suti kädessä ympäri kotia etsien "mitäs maalataan seuraavaksi!". Maalaaminen on hyyyyyvin terapeutista minulle ;) Tälläkin hetkellä maalaan bambusälekaihtimia valkoiseksi. 

Nämä Kikoin banaanipuualuset piti kuitenkin päästä maalaamaan ihan ensimmäisenä! Niin mielettömät tuotteet! Muistan kuinka nähdessäni nämä aluset Werannasin kuvastokuvauksissa ensimmäisen kerran, näin ne heti valkoisena, ja aivan mahtava lopputulos - just kuten olin halunnut: näet valkoisesta mattamaalista huolimatta materiaalin ja sen tunnun.

Täällä maailmalla ei ehkä ole niin ikävä itse Juhannusta, kun sitä täällä ei vietetä, mutta ikävä on mustikoita, vaikka enemmän syksyyn kuuluvatkin ;)

Recycling a flower bouquet in Fido jars - kukkaloistoa säilytyspurnukoissa

Don't know what it is this week, but somehow COLOR speaks to me. Perhaps it is the fact that right now, during the past 2 weeks, our world is really turning green in Sweden. Finally! Lovely!

Here an idea how to still use those few flowers left from a bouquet - it looks dead already, but some blossoms are still okay - so cut them and stick them in Fido jars, for example! At the moment they bright up my kitchen table, and cannot complain :)!

en tiedä, mikä nyt on tällä viikolla, kun niin kirkkaat värit puhuttelee. Ehkä siksi, että vihdoin, VIHDOIN maisema alkaa olemaan vihreä. Kyllä sitä on odotettukin, ihanaa!!

Tässä pieni idea, miten käyttää ne muutamat kukinnot, jotka on vielä jäljellä viikonlopun tai synttärien kukkakimpusta - leikkaa lyhyeksi ja iske vaikka säilytyspurkkiin.

Kuvassa niitä kaikkein klassisimpia Fido säilytyspurkkeja - niistä saa kannen helposti irti, itse en oikein mitään muuta osaa edes käyttää 'pöytäsäilytykseen' keittiössä. Suomessa jälleenmyyjänä ainakin Stocka, en tiedä muista. Kun lähtee mökille, senkun sulkee kaikki, ja kaikki on freshiä, kun tulee takaisin viikkojenkin jälkeen.

Lisäksi ne on nättejä keittiön sisustuksessa. Ja nämä kukkaversiot piristävät meidän keittiötä nyt kolmatta päivää :)!
