Christmas table setting - joulukattaus

Himla linen napkins - Himla pellavaservetti

This weekend I am fully focusing on planning Weranna's Christmas table settings - here some inspiration with Himla linen napkins, a xmas tree branch and a cinnamon stick. Perhaps 3-4 different kinds. I love to plan table settings, just feels a little silly sometimes as I am not much of a cook. But at least it looks pretty, if not much else ;).

Himla linen napkin - Himla pellavaservetti

Himla linen napkin - Himla pellavaservetti
Results in the blog during the next few days - at least a black and white Christmas table setting Kikoi Trading style, a white Christmas table setting with Petra Lunds Lera, and a Christmas table setting with linen and red. Can't wait for tomorrow <3!

***

Kattaus on puoli ruokaa. Joo, mä olen aika vanha, kun viljelen sananlaskuja.

Postailen tänne tuloksia seuraavien päivien aikana - ainakin mustavalkoinen joulukattaus Kikoin hengessä. Ja valkoinen joulukattaus Petra Lunds Leran tyyliin. Ja vikaksi joulukattaus, jossa pellavaa ja punaista. Voi, nyt ei jaksais odottaa aamuun <3!

Paulina Arcklin: Blueberry breakfast - mustikka-aamiainen

Paulina Arcklin: blueberry breakfast - mustikka-aamiainen

My beautiful friend, a stylist and photographer Paulina Arcklin, took again some wonderful photos - this time to Weranna's blog! Thank you! This breakfast looks so fresh and delicious that it  really is hard to wait until the blueberries start to be ready to be picked at the summer house.

Paulina Arcklin: blueberry breakfast - mustikka-aamiainen
It is no secret, or actually I might be world known for the fact, that I love white (and also black). In my mind, and also in my hands, everything turns white. And when I start to paint, I go around the house with the brush in my hand trying to find more objects 'to be painted white'.

Painting is VEEEEERY therapeutic for me ;), even right now I am painting some Bamboo blinds - white, of course.

Paulina Arcklin: blueberry breakfast - mustikka-aamiainen

These Kikoi potholders I just had to paint first! They are fantastic! I remember seeing the products the first time at Weranna's catalogue shoot...I saw them white immediately, and the end result is exactly as I had hoped for: despite the white matt surface you clearly see the original material and it's feel.

Outside Finland I don't miss Midsummer much, as it is not celebrated here, but I do miss blueberries, even though they might belong more to the fall ;)

Ihana Paulina Arcklin otti taas upeita kuvia - ja tällä kertaa Weranna'sin blogiin! Kiitos!

Maalaaminen on hyyyyyvin terapeutista minulle ;) Tälläkin hetkellä maalaan bambusälekaihtimia valkoiseksi.

Recycling a flower bouquet in Fido jars - kukkaloistoa säilytyspurnukoissa

Flower arrangement inspiration

Don't know what it is this week, but somehow COLOR speaks to me. Perhaps it is the fact that right now, during the past 2 weeks, our world is really turning green in Sweden. Finally! Lovely!

Here an idea how to still use those few flowers left from a bouquet - it looks dead already, but some blossoms are still okay - so cut them and stick them in Fido jars, for example! At the moment they bright up my kitchen table, and cannot complain :)!

The search for perfect hand-made ceramics

Perfect hand-made ceramics

...has been going on for some time. Until about 2 weeks ago I walk into Stilrummet to make a delivery and ask - where did THESE come from?? Wonderful, perfect, where do I find the maker, please, Marie, please?

Petra of Petras Lera has fulfilled her dream after moving to Sweden from Finland about 1,5 years ago. She is making the most beautiful hand-made ceramics one can possibly imagine. Working in same location with 7 other ceramists she is creating these beauties step by step, piece by piece.

She starts with a piece of clay in her hand. Looking at it, asking, what are you going to be? What's inside of you? She works the clay into plates, bowls and other accessories using vintage baskets and bowls as a mold.

She then picks one of the old, hand-made lace tablecloths of her grandmother Ingrid.  Presses the cloth gently into the wet clay to create a pattern. And carefully removes it to avoid any ripping of the old textile.

Perfect hand-made ceramics

After days of drying and all other necessary finishing steps, magnificent pieces of art are born. Every single one of them is unique. Hand-made with love by Petras Lera.

DIY table

DIY table
Those of you visiting Weranna's Warehouse frequently have become very familiar with Weranna's showroom table - I just simply love it! It was one of those days last summer when I was at my in-laws ranch, and saw a pile of old floor blanks in a shed and just seeing the pile made me go 'ahhh...'. 100-200 hundred-years-old blanks, with many layers of paint and glue (from wall-to-wall carpets used during the past decades) on top. Both wooden pegs and hand-made nails had been used during the many years (all treasures safe and sound, don't worry) to keep the floor together. And I said out loud - 'what a wonderful table' or something such.

It was my brother-in-law who looked at me confused and said 'O'. You know the way they say it like 'okay, I will just now look the other way so they don't realize they've completely lost it'-kinda-way ;).

THIS, unfortunately, was one of those projects where I tell the very much capable family members that it takes 30 minutes to saw the blanks and put them together, not a biggie AT ALL, I'll get the legs from Ikea. I think it took somewhere around 7 hours in total, during 3 days. Plus the work we, Weranna's girls (the other one is still young, so I can call us girls, right?), did scraping the table and doing the finishing. But the end result...LOVE. If you wish to get the same look, use a matt finish lacquer (suitable for dining tables!) and apply 2-3 layers so you can without worry keep the table clean!

It was fantastic to see some other ideas in the latest Deko. magazine from Finland - Using a glass on top doesn't work for our family just yet, but perhaps in 15 years or so, as it looks wonderful!

Le Creuset in Sweden!

Le Creuset
Running through the Barkarby outlet today I run into Le Creuset shop!! In Sweden!! Just yesterday I was visiting one home decor store and discussing with the owner that very few shops in Sweden have a good selection of Le Creuset products. But now - <3.

Le Creuset was established in France in 1925, producing porcelain enameled cast iron pots. Going through tough times during World War II, they kicked off again after the war. Le Creuset has continued to use the hand-crafted techniques and the original process of forging and casting in the manufacturing of its cookware until today. And the products are just gorgeous.

Summer dining

I love those small tags by On Interiör <3. If you have candles at a dinner table decorated with these, I bet even the food tastes perfect ;). Spiced up with happiness. Who wouldn't like statements like 'life is beautiful' and 'dreams are free'. Or 'follow your dreams'.

We found some new use for an antique pastry board - in the old times in Finland, when the kitchens weren't so functional like nowadays, the bread was raised with leaven on top of these boards. We thought it made a really nice base for any kind of a low-level centerpiece!

Having matching blankets for those who get cold easily (yes, I raise my hand ;)) as the evening gets cooler, adds nicely to the atmosphere.

I wish you all beautiful outdoor dining this summer!

Dream home in Rome - part II

Cherry blossoms - is there anything prettier? I look at them, and feel always so HAPPY! Spending time in Italy during the spring - my apartment would be FILLED with the blossoms. I promise you!

First thing that comes to your mind when thinking about Italy? FOOD, right? The red and tasty tomatoes, first of all. Garlic. Basil. Gorgonzola. But then again - the thought of standing in the kitchen preparing something extremely difficult and complicated just doesn't feel right, when spending precious moments in Italy (well, talking about me, NEVER feels right ;D). Something simple - the ingredients are so fantastic, it doesn't need to be anything fancy.

I would try to find a place with a small combined kitchen and living room - cozy and comfortable. Just a tiny kitchen corner, where to prepare the necessary - a small table to fit 2-3 people, and a nice couch to read a book. A desk to write. Sound good?

The above is something absolutely beautiful. Perhaps not being able to copy-paste those door frames, it might work to create the same atmosphere with some wall paper and an antique mirror. Do you think it would work?
